Akai AX-60

Released in 1986

The Akai AX-60 is a six-voice analog synthesizer with a 61-note keyboard. It has one oscillator per voice, 4-pole low-pass filter, high-pass filter, BBD chorus, arpeggiator, and split mode. The synth is based on the CEM3394, a single IC chip that contains a VCO, VCF and VCA. A unique feature of the AX-60 is a 13-pin DIN input for Akai samplers of the time, such as the S612; this allows for polyphonic sample processing through the AX-60, which can make for some interesting timbres - especially when blended with the synth's oscillators.
