Kawai K5
Released in 1987Unlike most synthesizers, which start off with certain waveforms and then modify the timbre using subtractive synthesis, the Kawai K5 uses additive synthesis to create its sounds. This means that a sound is created by adding together a multitude of sine waves, using different frequencies to create different harmonics. This makes for more cumbersome sound creation - but also allows for sounds that would not be attainable otherwise. The K5 has 16-note polyphony, and a 61-note keyboard with aftertouch.
