Yamaha DX1

Released in 1984

As Yamaha's flagship FM synthesizer, the DX1 contained basically two complete DX7 sound engines that could be split or layered, with a large front panel allowing quick access to program parameters. The 73-note keybed featured wooden keys and polyphonic aftertouch, and beautiful rosewood end panels completed the package. This was one of the most expensive synthesizer Yamaha had manufactured, originally costing about $14,000, and it was one of the most rare - only about 140 were ever made.
